Edgar Myles

Edgar Myles House in Canning Town is a six-storey residential development delivering 49 homes for Riverside Housing Association. Working alongside Vistry Group and A2O Facades, Finish Facades supplied and delivered approximately 1,450m² of aluminium rainscreen cladding using the Finish Elements Facade System.

The façade combines bespoke gold metallic aluminium cassette panels with contrasting silver metallic balcony panels, creating a distinctive contemporary appearance while meeting the technical and safety requirements of a modern residential development.

The Challenge

The main challenge of the project was managing a significant production delay caused by issues with the specialist powder-coating supplier in Italy. To maintain the project deadline, Finish Facades coordinated an accelerated manufacturing programme, producing the cassette panels ready for immediate finishing as soon as the specialist coating became available.

The project required careful production planning, close coordination with suppliers and efficient scheduling to ensure installation works could continue within the required timeframe.

The Finish Elements system supported faster installation on site, helping maintain programme certainty while minimising disruption to surrounding residents and neighbouring occupied areas.

Throughout the project, Finish Facades worked closely with A2O Facades to quickly resolve issues, maintain communication and ensure smooth project delivery despite challenging programme conditions.

The Solution

Finish Facades supplied and manufactured approximately 1,450m² of the Finish Elements aluminium façade system, incorporating bespoke gold metallic cassette panels and contrasting silver metallic balcony panels to create a distinctive architectural appearance across the development.

A key requirement of the project was achieving a bespoke gold metallic finish that accurately matched the neighbouring building. Working closely with the project team and specialist coating suppliers, Finish Facades coordinated the manufacture and finishing process to ensure colour consistency was maintained across the completed façade.

The Finish Elements system was selected for its ability to provide a clean, contemporary appearance through the use of concealed fixings and precision-manufactured aluminium cassette panels. The system enabled the architect’s design intent to be realised while providing the durability, fire performance and long-term weather resistance required for a modern residential development.

The system is tested in accordance with CWCT standards and achieves a fire classification of BS EN 13501-1 A2-s1,d0, supporting compliance with current building safety requirements.

Despite delays within the specialist coating supply chain, Finish Facades implemented an accelerated manufacturing programme, producing panels in readiness for finishing as soon as coatings became available. This proactive approach helped minimise programme disruption and allowed installation works to progress efficiently on site.

Working in collaboration with A2O Facades, Vistry Group and the wider project team, Finish Facades successfully delivered a façade package that combined bespoke architectural detailing, technical performance and efficient project delivery within a challenging construction programme.

Sustainability

Sustainability was a core consideration throughout the material strategy. The lightweight aluminium construction helped reduce structural loading and overall material usage across the development while still delivering long-term durability and performance.

Aluminium also provides significant sustainability benefits through its long service life and full recyclability at end-of-life, supporting circular economy principles and reducing long-term environmental impact.

The system’s off-site manufacturing approach also helped reduce waste and improve installation efficiency during the construction phase.

The Outcome

Edgar Myles House demonstrates Finish Facades’ ability to combine technical performance, manufacturing flexibility and collaborative delivery to successfully provide a high-quality residential façade solution under demanding programme conditions.

By successfully managing supply chain challenges, delivering bespoke colour-matched Finish Elements façade panels and maintaining programme certainty throughout the installation process, Finish Facades helped support the successful delivery of a modern residential development that meets both architectural and technical performance requirements.
